The Chroma Maze, a large-scale inflatable sculpture and circle around a path bathed in color, debuted in the MuseumLab at Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh.

Open on Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m., the maze blends into new shades at each turn. At the sculpture’s center, visitors can bounce, sit or lay back and enjoy the light filtering through its mosaic-like ceiling.

“Exploring color in a fun and tactile way in Chroma Maze is a great addition to our exhibits for growing minds,” said Jane Werner, executive director of Children’s Museum.

Chroma Maze was created by Pneuhaus, a design studio that makes large-scale experiential installations that explore space, light, color and sound, often for festivals and special events. This is the first permanent installation that Pneuhaus has created.

“The size and scale of Chroma Maze is stunning as you enter MuseumLab,” said Anne Fullenkamp, senior director of creative experiences. “Once inside, you’re enveloped in a world of light and color that’s both exciting and meditative.”

Chroma Maze is a shoes-off, socks-on environment much like Gymlacium, the climbing sculpture by Manca Ahlin in MuseumLab. The installation is now open, and will be up through Sept. 24, 2024.

MuseumLab is located next door to Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh and included with museum admission.
