Zelenka – 60 years

Edward and Edith Zelenka of Washington will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a small gathering with family and close friends.

The couple were married April 23, 1953, in Immaculate Conception Church, Washington.

Mr. and Mrs. Zelenka have four children, Edward R. Zelenka Jr., Debra Winfield, Stephen Zelenka and Becky (Dave) Cecchine, all of Washington.

They have four grandchildren, John M. Burnette Jr., Kyra Matachak, Kellie Winfield and Samantha Zelenka, and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Zelenka attended Immaculate Conception High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in World War II on the front lines of the invasion of Normandy, France, in the Battle of the Bulge. He retired from Universal Cyclops in Bridgeville and Lawrenceville after 35 years of service.

Mrs. Zelenka graduated from Washington High School and was employed by Bell Telephone. She enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was a teletype operator at the Pentagon during the Korean War. She retired from Washington Hospital after 18 years of service, last working in the EKG department as an EKG technician.

In their retirement, both enjoy Pittsburgh sports, local casinos and spending time with their children and grandchildren.
