Steve and Pauline Spataro Jr. of Washington, formerly of Avella, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with a surprise party given by their children at the home of their daughter, Nina, for family and close friends. After the party, they took a trip to North Myrtle Beach, S.C., with their children and grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Spataro were married July 4, 1964, in St. Michaels Catholic Church, Avella, by Father George Benton.

Their children are Nina (the late Steve) Gysegem of Washington, Steven (Dana) Spataro of Avella and Nicole Greene of Washington. Their grandchildren are Nathan Bryner, Roman and Dominic Spataro and Isabella and Noah Greene.

Mr. Spataro is a retired meat cutter from Shop ‘n Save and works with his son.

Mrs. Spataro is a retired hairdresser, having owned a shop in Avella for 40 years.

Both enjoy working in the yard, taking walks and going on cruises, but mostly they enjoy spending time with their children, grandchildren and close friends.
