Robert and Martha Holmes of McMurray, formerly of Canonsburg, will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary with an open house celebration from 2 to 6 p.m. June 7 at Abundant Life Baptist Church, Washington.

Mr. and Mrs. Holmes were married June 9, 1944, in the bride’s family home in Thompsonville.

Their children are Robert (Bonnie) Holmes Jr. of Washington, Linda (the late William) Grabiak of Sheffield, Ohio, Raymond (Marsha) Holmes of Eighty Four, Denise (Gary) Stollar of Claysville and the late Duane (Carolyn) Holmes of Washington.

They have 13 grandchildren, Edward and Randy Grabiak, Dreama Mecklenburg, Terri James, Damon Holmes, Greg Holmes, Christina McFadden, Rachel Sekura, Andrew Holmes, Kaleena Conklin, Guy Holmes, Joshua Stollar and Sarah Holmes, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Mr. Holmes worked at Yatsko Garage for many years after serving in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mrs. Holmes worked for Bobbi Brooks as a seamstress and at Woolworth’s grill and has blessed many people with her crochet creations.

Both are longtime members of Abundant Life Baptist Church, formerly Allison Avenue Baptist Church.
