Ackerman–60 years
Sherman “Sherm” Ackerman III and Carla Jean Weaver Ackerman of Eighty Four celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Mr. and Mrs. Ackerman were married February 13, 1955, in Hull Chapel of First Baptist Church, Washington.
The couple have four children, Sheryl Ann Ingram (Dan), Nancy Louise Flemming (Wheeler), Cynthia Linn Petro and the late Sherman Ackerman IV.
They have nine grandchildren, Jennifer Louise Ingram, Jessica Linn Prosperi (Joe), Emily Ann Horn (Joe), Carla Jean Sullivan (Billy), Redmond Wheeler Flemming Jr., Daniel Sherman Ackerman (Amy), Katherine Grace Ackerman, Matthew Wayne Petro (Amanda) and Kelly Ann Petro.
They have three great-grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Ackerman have a combined 78-year career in the steel industry.
Mrs. Ackerman spent 25 years in inside sales management, which started at Jessop Steel’s Birmingham, Ala., district office. She then moved to the Midwest regional office in Chicago, Ill., and lastly to the Jessop/Allegheny Ludlum location in Washington.
Mr. Ackerman’s career spanned 53 years, moving from the Jessop mill to St. Louis, Mo., field sales to district manager in Birmingham to Midwest regional manager in Chicago and back to Jessop mill as general manager-tool steel.
He took early retirement from Allegheny Ludlum Corp. as general manager-tool steel and finished his career as marketing director for Precision-Marshall Steel in Washington.
