Corey W. Gaffron, an Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps cadet at California University of Pennsylvania, has graduated from the Cadet Leader Course at Fort Knox, Ky. CLC is a 30-day summer event focused on training cadets to solve complex leadership issues and problems at the company level. Upon successful completion of the course, the ROTC program and graduation from college, cadets are commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army, Army National Guard or Army Reserve. Gaffron is a 2011 graduate of California Area High School, and his parents are Wayne E. Gaffron of Coal Center and Jill E. Gaffron of Bethel Park.

Jesse P. Martin, an Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps cadet at Duquesne University, has graduated from the U.S. Army Air Assault School at Fort Benning, Ga., and earned the honor of wearing the Air Assault Badge. Students must complete a 12-mile foot march in three hours or less wearing the prescribed uniform with weapon, equipment and a 30-pound backpack. The march is a graded task and a graduation requirement of the air assault course, designed to test strength, stamina and endurance. He is a 2013 graduate of Bentworth High School, and his parents are Gary J. and Brenda J. Martin of Scenery Hill.
