Jerilyn and David Smereczniak of Clarksville celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with a party for family and friends April 16 at Nemacolin Country Club, Beallsville. Their grandchildren wrote and performed an original doo-wop style musical tribute in their honor. The couple renewed their vows at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Fredericktown.

Mr. and Mrs. Smereczniak were married April 16, 1966, in St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Castle Shannon.

Their children are Karyn (William) Thompson of King George, Va., Scott (Carol) Smereczniak of Malawi, Africa, and Jeff (Shannon) Smereczniak of Canonsburg.

Their grandchildren are Stephen, Kyra, Cassie, Rachel and Gabriella Thompson and Hannah and Justin Smereczniak.

Mr. Smereczniak spent 20 years as a pilot in the U.S. Navy and, after retirement, he taught science at Jefferson-Morgan High School. After retiring from teaching, he started his own computer repair business, which he still operates today.

Mrs. Smereczniak worked as a registered nurse in various hospitals as they traveled in the U.S. Navy, then as a school nurse in Virgina. She was also a nursing supervisor at the former Curry Home in Waynesburg and taught health assistant classes at the vo-tech school in Waynesburg. She is retired.

Both are active in their church and at the YMCA, where Mr. Smereczniak plays racquetball and Mrs. Smereczniak takes aqua zumba classes.
