Matthew E. Rabold, an Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps cadet at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, has earned the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge. The badge is a decoration of the Bundeswehr, the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Germany, and is one of the few approved foreign awards in the U.S. military. Testing is broken into two categories: basic fitness and military training. Basic fitness consists of sprints, a flexed-arm hang and a 1,000-meter run. Military training includes a 100-meter swim in uniform, a Combat Lifesaver written test, a mission-oriented protective posture 4 proficiency test, a 9mm pistol qualification and a road march of up to 7.5 miles. Rabold is a 2013 graduate of Canon-McMillan High School, and his parents are Ina and Tom Rabold of Canonsburg.
