West Liberty University’s College of Liberal Arts celebrates the birth of Frankenstein, the novel, beginning with a free interdisciplinary symposium from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday in the Boyle Conference Center located in the Academic, Sport and Recreation Complex (ASRC). An all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at First Christian Church, 615 E. Beau Street, Washington. The menu includes spaghetti with homemade meat sauce, salad, Italian bread, drink and homemade dessert. Cost is $10 for adults and $4 for children ages 5-12. Children age 4 and younger are free. A spaghetti dinner to benefit the Richard Breeding Scholarship Fund, a $1,000 yearly scholarship that is awarded to a graduating West Greene High School seniors entering the military, will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Harmony Presbyterian Church of Wind Ridge, 114 Rush Road. The menu will include spaghetti, salad, roll, dessert, and water, tea or coffee for a donation of $10 per adult and $5 per child. Takeout will be available. An auction will also be held. Mon Valley YMCA, 101 Taylor Road, Monongahela, will offer a free gardening class from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday. “Little City Gardeners” Peggy Brown and Hazel Murray, Penn State Master Gardeners, will present “Gardening through the Seasons.” Topics will include weeds, bugs, vegetable and flower seedlings, spring feeding, starting bulb-like flowers indoors and pruning. TONI&GUY Hairdressing Academy will present a Catwalk Event at 6 p.m. Saturday at South Hills Village Mall, Bethel Park. The Catwalk will showcase students’ haircutting and design skills on live models. Students will show off their talents at a “braid bar” for guests who want to have their hair braided. Guests can also have their fingernails painted at a “polish change station.”
