Diabetes workshop planned
Penn State Extension will offer Dining with Diabetes, a nationally-accredited program for adults with or at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, at the Mon Valley YMCA on Taylor Run Road in Monongahela. The class will meet on Wednesdays for four weeks, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. May 9, and from 1 to 3 p.m. May 16, 23 and 30, with a three-month follow-up on August 8 at the Mon Valley YMCA, 101 Taylor Run Road, Monongahela.
Learn how to prepare healthy meals that taste good and help control blood sugar. Recipes will be demonstrated and participants will have the opportunity to taste each one. Participants will also get up-to-date information on nutrition, meal planning and exercise, as well as learn how to understand important diabetes-related medical tests.
A1C, a measure of blood glucose levels, and blood pressure will be taken at the first and follow-up classes. Participants are also given resources such as an exercise DVD, plate method placemat, and a Dining with Diabetes Cookbook.
Space is limited. Preregistration is required by calling the Penn State Registration Office at 1-877-345-0691 or online at extension.psu.edu/dining-with-diabetes.
