Library shares Vietnam stories
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Tet Offensive, members of the Veterans Breakfast Club – including seven Vietnam veterans – embarked on a two-week guided tour of Vietnam in March highlighting the battle zones of the war, while also exploring Vietnam’s history and natural beauty.
At 7 p.m. on Aug. 23, the Peters Township Public Library will host Todd DePastino, executive director of the Veterans Breakfast Club, for “Vietnam Stories: Then and Now.” The talk will offer some insight into the history of Vietnam and share experiences from the trip. Registration is recommended at ptlibrary.org or by calling 724-941-9430.
DePastino is the founder and executive director of the Veterans Breakfast Club, a non-profit dedicated to sharing veterans’ stories with the public.
The Peters Township Library Foundation, in partnership with the library, filmed and produced a selection of “Vietnam Memories” to delve more deeply into the experiences of local Vietnam veterans and the recollections of local residents. The videos, recorded by retired Observer Publishing Co. photographer Jim McNutt, will be playing in the library lobby the week of Aug. 20. They can be watched anytime on the library’s YouTube channel or on Comcast Channel 7/Verizon Channel 38.
