5K run/walk to benefit children with cancer
Heart & Sole 5K Run/Walk “Fight for the Kids” will be held Sept. 8 at Greene Cove Yacht Club located at 1506 N. 88 Road in Clarksville, just off Route 88 along the Monongahela River.
The registration deadline is today.
Organized by Colby’s Stars Foundation Inc., a local nonprofit that raises money for area children diagnosed with cancer, the race will begin at the Greene Cove Trail Head. Mandatory registration is from 7 to 8:30 a.m. The race begins at 9.
The course is on crushed limestone along the Greene River Trail. For safety reasons, runners and walkers are asked not to bring strollers, pets, roller blades, bicycles, etc., on the trail.
Awards will be presented to the top three male and female runners and walkers overall, the top three male and female runners and walkers in each age category.
Registration fee is $25 per person, or $200 for a team of 10. Preregistration guarantees a T-shirt, and shirts will be limited on the day of the race.
To register, make checks payable to Colby’s Stars Foundation Inc. and mail to: Colby’s Stars Foundation Inc., 112 Bedilion Road, Waynesburg, PA 15370. Cash is also accepted. Registration fees are non-refundable.
The 5K Run/Walk, which coincides with National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, is the latest in a series of fundraising events from Colby’s Stars Foundation, an initiative that began as a grassroots effort by the community to support Colby Simkovic of Waynesburg, who at 8 years old was diagnosed with a rare form of a brain tumor. Colby will soon be turning 17 and has been cancer-free for many years.
