The Active Christian Seniors Group of Canonsburg United Presbyterian Church, 112 W. Pike St., will hold a luncheon Sept. 10. The program begins at 11 a.m. with author and historian Gary Augustine giving a presentation on the Gettysburg Address. At noon, a lunch of chipped barbeque ham sliders, pierogies, cabbage and noodles and homemade apple pie will be served. Reservations are required; call 724-745-0800, between Aug. 29 and Sept. 5.
Washington County Department of Parks & Recreation will offer Crickets, Katydids and Hoppers at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 6 at Shelter 6, Mingo Creek County Park. Learn how these insects create sounds then explore nearby fields to search for these musical critters. Long pants, shoes that cover your feet and long sleeved shirts are recommended. Peters Township Newcomers and Neighbors will hold its annual Kick-off Event at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 13 at Valley Brook Country Club. Bring a friend to mingle, meet new people and hear about the group’s activities. Attendees do not have to be a Peters resident or new to the area. Hors d’oeuvres and cake will be provided, and there will be a cash bar. Checks and cash will be accepted for raffle tickets to win baskets, the 50/50 raffle and silent auction. Peters Township Newcomers and Neighbors is a not-for-profit women’s civic and social organization that holds a variety of activities, including book club, bunco, crafts, fitness, wine tasting, luncheons, couple’s socials and more. CASA of Greene County Inc., an organization that serves as court-appointed special advocates for children, is holding an information session at 5 p.m. Sept. 5 at Eva K. Bowlby Library in Waynesburg for people interested in helping. CASA guardians and volunteers are appointed by judges and speak on behalf of children’s needs.
