W&J to host Symposium on Democracy
Washington & Jefferson College will host its inaugural Symposium on Democracy Feb. 12-16 on the W&J College campus. This free and open-to-the-public series of events will include internationally-renowned experts on democracy, panel discussions, exhibits in the U. Grant Miller library, and participation by the W&J community including faculty and student presentations.
The two main events are:
- Feb. 13, 6:30 p.m. – Stephen B. Young, global executive director of the Caux Round Table for Moral Capitalism, will speak in Olin Fine Arts Center on the topic, “Can American Democracy Survive Without a Thriving Middle Class?”
- Feb. 14, 6:30 p.m. – Richard Carwardine, FRHistS, FBA, FLSW, Professor of American History and former President of the Corpus Christi College, Oxford will present “The Foundations of American Democracy: 1776-1865” in Olin Fine Arts Center.
