Canonsburg
Through Canonsburg Hospital’s Speaker Series, physicians and other health-care professionals can present free programs on a variety of health-related topics. For a copy of the Speaker Series brochure, call 724-873-5835.

Physician referral access line is 412-DOCTORS (362-8677) and is available between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Medivan service, operated by Canonsburg Ambulance, is available to residents who need transportation to Canonsburg General Hospital for testing or surgery. The service cannot accommodate patients in wheelchairs. Rides must be scheduled at least one day in advance. To schedule, call 724-745-6911.

Monongahela
Health-care professionals from the hospital and Southwestern Pennsylvania Human Services Inc. are available to make free presentations to service clubs, church groups, senior citizens organizations and others who request programs. On-site laboratory services for blood and urine analysis are available from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at Monongahela Valley Hospital’s occupational health program site at the Mon-Vale HealthPLEX, WillowPointe Plaza, Suite 210, Belle Vernon. A doctor’s prescription is required, and blood samples and urine specimens collected at the site will be tested at the laboratory at the hospital. For more information, call 724-379-1940.
HealthPLEX Imaging and Rostraver Imaging use digital diagnostic equipment to provide sharp images. HealthPLEX Imaging, in the Mon-Vale HealthPLEX at WillowPointe Plaza, offers bone density, 3-D mammography, ultrasound and X-ray. At Rostraver Imaging, in the Peasant Village Professional Plaza, diagnostic services include CT-scan, MRI, ultrasound and X-ray. Services are available weekdays, with some evening appointments. Look Good Feel Better, June 4, 1 to 3 p.m. The American Cancer Society designed this program for women dealing with hair loss and skin changes from chemotherapy and radiation. Presenters will provide specific treatment techniques to help ladies look their best while undergoing treatment. To register, call 1-800-227-2345.
“Is Weight Loss Surgery Right For You?” June 6, 6 p.m. HealthPlex. Bariatric surgery is an option for people who want to lose 100 pounds or more. This free information session is designed to give those individuals struggling with weight loss the facts to choose their best option. To register, call 724-258-1333.
Strawberry Festival, June 8, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., outside Central Plaza and MPOB Upper Lot. The Auxiliary of Mon-Vale Health Resources sponsors this ever-popular summer kick-off event. This year’s festival will feature a variety of gift vendors and food trucks. The auxiliary will sell pepperoni rolls, strawberry garden salad with grilled chicken and strawberry shortcake. Flowers and plants from Joseph’s Nursery and Garden Center will also be sold and DJ Bill Lemon will provide music at the event. Free parking is available. For more information, call 724-258-1167.
Suicide Bereavement Support Group, June 11 and 25, 1 to 2:30 p.m. This support group is a four-month program that meets the second and fourth Mondays of each month. This program is led by a licensed psychologist and is free and open to all those touched by suicide. Registration is required. To register, call 724-678-3601.
Innovations in Medicine: “What is Diverticular Disease?” June 11, 6 p.m. This education program is designed to educate you about diverticular disease.
Alzheimer’s Support Group, June 12, 6 to 8 p.m. This free support group meets once a month. It is designed to help the families, friends and caregivers of those suffering from Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia. Reservations are requested by calling 724-258-1333.
RSDS Support Group, June 12, 6 to 8 p.m. The Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome (RSDS) Support Group is free and open to all persons with RSDS or related illnesses. For more information, call 724-929-9492.
Advanced Carbohydrate Counting, June 12, 6 to 6 p.m. This program is a diabetes self-management class designed to educate you on how to count carbohydrate content in food to improve blood sugar control. Registration is required at least one week prior to the start of class by calling 724-258-1483.
Diabetes Support Group, June 14, 2 to 3 p.m. This support program is free for people with diabetes, their families and caregivers. Advance registration is required by calling 724-258-1483.
MVH Blood Drive, June 15, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. In conjunction with the American Red Cross, the hospital is sponsoring a blood drive to benefit local patients. Free parking is available. For more information or to register, call 724-258-1282 or visit redcrosslife.org.
American Heart Association Family and Friends CPR/AED June 19, 8 to 10 a.m. This course is designed for the layperson that has little or no medical training, and is taught by a certified instructor. This course is for people who do not need a certification card for a job. Content includes an orientation to CPR for adult, child, infants, choking and use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Cost of this course is $35 to cover the cost of the book, which includes a class participation card.
American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR/AED, June 19, 4 to 8 p.m. Adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR/AED) classes. The fee is $50 to cover the class and required materials. To register, call 724-258-1333.
Managing Your Diabetes, June 19, 20 and 21, 6 to 9 p.m. This education program is designed to help you with diabetes self-management. Registration is required at least one week prior to the start date of class by calling 724-258-1483.
Ostomy Support Group, June 21, 2 to 3 p.m. This support group is free and open to all persons with ostomies and their families and friends. The group meets the third Thursday of each month. For more information, call 724-258-1773.
Annual Oncology Symposium June 27. Registration/breakfast 7:30 a.m. Program 8 to noon. Featured topics of melanoma, lung cancer, rectal cancer and breast surgery will be presented by national oncology experts. Diabetes Education Center offers group classes and one-on-one appointments, addressing a comprehensive range of topics. Diabetes management plans are developed with patients and their physicians, taking into account each individual’s lifestyle and needs. Insulin pump training is provided. Washington
Breast-feeding Support Group meets from 6:30 to 8 p.m. the last Monday of each month, except May and December, in the Community Room at Washington Hospital. To register, call 724-250-4476.
Stroke Support Group meets from 4:30 to 6 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month in the occupational therapy apartment, fourth floor, at Washington Hospital. To register, call 724-229-2449.
Free health and wellness information is available in the Ruth York Morgan Health Education Learning Place at Washington Hospital. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, call 724-223-3144.
Prenatal classes are baby care, breast-feeding and prepared childbirth. There is a fee, but many insurance plans will offer some reimbursement. Call 724-223-3173 early in pregnancy.

Teen Outreach programs at Washington Hospital include:
• Echo – a home-based early intervention program for children in fourth through eighth grades.
• Parents and Daughters – for girls 9 to 12 years old.

• Pregnant and Parenting Teens – supportive and educational services for teens.
• Teen Father Program – for fathers up to 22 years old.
