Giant Oaks Garden Club will meet at 11:15 a.m. Thursday for its monthly luncheon meetingat St. David’s Anglican Church, 905 E. McMurray Road, Peters Township. A community dinner will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Liberty United Methodist Church, 1330 Banetown Road, Washington. Dinner will include creamed chicken and biscuit, mashed potatoes, green beans, coleslaw or fruit, dessert and beverage. A freewill offering will be accepted. Carryout is available. Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh will hold a free public star party on Friday and Saturday, at Mingo Creek Park Observatory located in Mingo Creek Park, Mansion Hill Extension, past Shelter 10, in Eighty Four. Safe solar observing will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by night sky observing around 9, weather permitting. Planetarium presentations occur rain or shine. Secret Gardens of Wheeling tours and garden market will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday with shopping ending at 2. During the event, sponsored by the Committee of the Museums of Oglebay Institute, six “secret gardens” in Wheeling, W.Va., will be toured and gardening tips will be shared.
