Washington County Special Olympics hosted a basketball invitational March 10 at Washington & Jefferson College. In addition to Washington, four counties were represented, Allegheny, Beaver, Greene and Lawrence, with 15 teams and 120 athletes competing.

Competition consisted of a skills tournament and round robin tournaments with the 3×3 and 5×5 basketball teams.

During the tournament, athletes and spectators took a pledge to “Say the Word to End the Word” to stop the use of the “r” word.

Organizers thanked Washington Boy Scout Troop 1315 and W&J College volunteers for their help during the invitational, and Range Resources for donating $5,000 to support Washington County Special Olympics.
