Teen Outreach holds 16th award banquet

The Washington Health System Teen Outreach held its 16th annual Awards Night on Thursday at Washington Park Elementary School.

The event recognizes individuals, community agencies and businesses that have provided support in the past year to the Teen Outreach mission to young people. Senior Peer Educators are also recognized.

Peer Educator members from the Real Talk Performers performed an original educational drama to open the event. “On and Off,” an original one-act play written by Peer Educator Shelby Studt, focused on cyberbullying and was presented by performers from Trinity and Washington high schools.

The 2018 awardees are:

Mary Grace Stutzman

  • Agency Award: CASA for Kids Inc., for support of the outreach’s mission to raise awareness of the needs of young people and support them
  • Business Award: Washington Square Flowers for supporting the Washington’s Got Talent program
  • Community Award: Kimberly Rogers, director, Washington County Children and Youth Services, for commitment to the health and wellness of community children
  • Educator Award: Lisa Jenkins, teacher in the Trinity Area School District, for her continued support to the Teen Outreach sexuality education program in her district; Marsha Mosca, teacher in the Washington School District, for her ongoing support for the Sister to Sister Program; and Tiffani Trice-Kolar, teacher in the Ringgold School District, for her dedication to the Teen Outreach’s Adolescent Advisory Board
  • Fellowship Award: the Rev. Eugene Beard, Nazareth Baptist Church, for his commitment to the health and well-being of young people and his participation in the Let’s Talk Panel on school violence
  • Inclusion Award: Darrilyn McCrerey and Grishma Solanki for their commitment to and respect for individuals of all abilities
  • Power Award: Amanda Gallagher and Addie Bertram of the Washington County Juvenile Probation Office for their support for education on cyberbullying to raise awareness for Respect Online
  • President’s Award: Mary Jo Hatfield of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, for support for the Refresh Program for transitional-aged youth and the Common Ground Teen Center
  • School Administrator Award: Mary Grace Stutzman, principal in the Washington School District, for ongoing support of Teen Outreach programming and dedication to young people
  • Service Award: Linda D. Harris, for consistent support for the well-being of the children served by the LeMoyne Center
  • Social Justice Award: Marcie Callan, for standing up for the rights of all people
  • Sprit Award: Douglas W. Bush for support to the people in the community through the City Mission
  • Youth Achievement Awards: Tamairra Bunge, Toni Maurer, Shelby Studt, Maggie Thompson, Maci Ward and Landan Weakland, for achievement as staff at the Common Ground Teen Center; and Greg Siller for commitment to the Teen Outreach’s Adolescent Advisory Board
  • Youth Advocate Award: Author Anastasia Higginbotham for dedication to young people through her book series on difficult topics, “Ordinary Terrible Things”
  • Volunteer Awards: Ken Baker, Sharon Evans, Sara Necciai, Bill Speer and Cindy Speer, for their commitment to the Teen Outreach ECHO (Educate Children for Healthy Outcomes) mentoring program; and Cassie Dunston, for her dedication to young people and support for the Teen Outreach’s Adolescent Advisory Program and Washington’s Got Talent fundraiser
  • A special award was given to Chartiers-Houston School District to acknowledge their support for the 2018 Washington’s Got Talent fundraiser
