Charleroi Area to graduate 101

Charleroi Area High School will hold commencement exercises for 101 graduates at 7 p.m. June 5 at Myron Pottios Stadium.
Speaking at the ceremony will be valedictorian Sierra Short and salutatorian Victoria Anders.
Short is the daughter of Jim and Jodie Short of Fallowfield Township. Among her awards are the Dr. Freddie Fu Internship/Scholarship, Rensselaer Medal, Deanna Martorella Scholarship, Mid Mon Valley Hall of Fame Scholar-Athlete and Challenge Program community service award. She was class president, parliamentarian for National Honor Society, and participated in Academic League, peer jury, Cougar Spirit Club, mock trial, Interact club, foreign language club, student council and Students Against Destructive Decisions. Short was captain of the girls basketball team and a member of the volleyball team. She plans to attend Chatham University to study in the physician assistant program.
Anders is the daughter of Gregg and Joyce Anders of Fallowfield Township. Among her awards are the Messiah College provost and president’s scholarships, Citizen Leaders and Achievers scholarship, American Association of University Women scholarship, Charleroi Lions Club scholarship and Charleroi Area Ministerial Association scholarship. She was National Honor Society historian, president of Bible Club and the Interscholastic Reading Competition, secretary of STEM club, recycling team coordinator, and a member of the drone team, peer tutoring, building crew for the musical and French club. She plans to attend Messiah College to study human development and family science or nutrition and dietetics.
