McGuffey to graduate 117
McGuffey High School will graduate a class of 117 at its commencement ceremony at 7 p.m. Friday in the high school gymnasium.
The student speakers will be Corey Adam Hale, Mikalah Lyn Maxwell and Addie R. Shanor.
Hale is the son of Reggie and Tish Hale of South Franklin Township. He was a National Merit Scholarship Commended Student and a Presidential Scholarship recipient.
His activities included National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, senior class secretary, Envirothon, math team and the rifle and track teams. He plans to enlist in the U.S. Navy.
Maxwell is the daughter of Keith and Mary Beth Maxwell of South Franklin Township. She received the Zonta Club Amelia Earhart Award, Corey Joseph Adams scholarship, Lions Club of Washington County scholarship and TRICADA athletic scholarship.
She was an all-section soccer player, captain of the basketball team and a member of the track team, parliamentarian of the National Honor Society, vice president of the Spanish Club, a member of the Spanish National Honor Society and a McGuffey McFriends volunteer. She plans to major in international studies at American University.
Shanor is the daughter of Eric and Amy Shanor of Buffalo Township. She received the Elbin Academic Scholarship to West Liberty University, where she plans to major in ecology, evolution and organismal biology.
She was president of the National Honor Society, vice president of Envirothon, a member of the track and tennis teams, Spanish National Honor Society, marching and concert band, Teen Action, math team and Spanish club and a McFriends volunteer.
