West Greene to hold commencement Friday
West Greene High School will hold commencement ceremonies for 43 graduates at 7 p.m. Friday in the high school gymnasium.
Speaking will be valedictorian Rachel L. Jones and salutatorian Peyton A. Blake.
Jones is the daughter of Kurt and Connie Jones of Holbrook.
Among her awards are the Presidential Award, U.S. Marine Corps Scholastic Excellence Award, and scholarships from American Legion Post 416, Chapman Family, Greene County Association of School Retirees, Greene County Memorial Hospital Foundation, Jesse Benson Finnegan Memorial, Opportunity, Savannah Hennen Memorial, Thelma S. Hoge and West Greene Lions Club.
Her activities included National Honor Society, Science Club, Ski Club, Drama Club and peer mentoring program. She was president of the International Club, captain of the cross country team, where she was named all-county, and a member of the track team. She plans to attend Carlow University to major in biology.
Blake is the son of Brian and Beth Blake of Waynesburg.
His awards include the Presidential Award, Citizenship Award, Academic Excellence Award and the Scholastic Silver Key for art. He received scholarships from the Chapman Family, American Legion, Central Greene Trust, Thelma Szarell and Wind Ridge Engineering.
He was student government president, and a member of the Academic League, International Club and National Honor Society. He plans to attend Sheridan College in Ontario, Canada, majoring in game design.
