Downtown Washington celebrates the holidays
Downtown Washington will kick off the holiday season with activities in November and December.
Starting the season off is Small Business Saturday on Nov. 24, encouraging shoppers to visit local “mom and pop shops” following Black Friday. This year, Washington businesses will be promoting their own specials and activities but coming together for a “Downtown Washington Small Business Saturday Passport,” in which nearly two dozen participating businesses will be open and be a destination point for shoppers to visit and enter to win a gift basket filled with local gift cards and products.
In order to enter, shoppers must visit a set number of businesses and drop off their passport stub after visiting the shops. The winner will be announced Nov. 27. Freedom Transit will offer free transportation on Small Business Saturday, and weekend parking is always free in the city of Washington.
Businesses are encouraged to participate in the Window Display Contest being held now through Dec. 12. The public can vote in the following categories: Best Use of Lights, Best Use of Product, and Most Traditional. Votes will be calculated by most “likes” in each category on the Downtown Washington PA Facebook page. Businesses can enter the contest by contacting Will Prince, Main Street manager, at will@downtownwashingtonpa.com or 724-288-7156. Winners in each category will win a prize from Reimagine Main Street for 25,000 online impressions or two color print ads.
The Main Street Parade & Holiday Market returns Dec. 7. The Holiday Market starts with Santa at 4 p.m. Local craft and food vendors will be located under the Community Pavilion until 9. The parade will hit Main Street starting at 7. Many local businesses will be staying open during the parade. For information, contact Will Prince at the above email or phone number.
