Expanded medication-assisted treatment program available
Mon Valley Community Health Services, located at Eastgate 2, Monessen, has expanded its medication-assisted treatment program, offering Suboxone and Vivitrol treatment for opioid addiction through its Centers of Excellence (COE).
The Centers of Excellence is an initiative by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services to integrate behavioral health and primary care to insure that people with opioid-use disorder receive treatment and continue to receive follow-up care and support within the community.
The program is open to the public, who can call the COE at Primary Care at 724-684-8999.
Patients do not have to receive primary care services form the clinic to participate in medication-assisted treatment and referrals are not required. No one is denied service due to an inability to pay.
Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is used primary to treat opioid-use disorder, but can also treat individuals with alcohol-use disorder. MAT uses FDA-approved Suboxone and Vivitrol, decreasing cravings and withdrawal symptoms. These don’t cure addition but they can assist in the development of healthy and effective skills to be free and rid of opioids entirely.
Patients in the program will be under close physician supervision and can undergo additional treatment and recovery support, such as drug and alcohol counseling.
