The Western Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association (WPTLA) hosted its 17th annual Comeback Award Dinner at the Cambria Hotel and Suites in Pittsburgh Wednesday.

The Comeback Award Dinner recognizes an outstanding client of a member attorney who has shown rare courage and determination in overcoming a devastating illness or injury. The winner receives an award and a $2,500 donation to a charity of their choice. Past beneficiaries include the Wounded Warrior Project, the Children’s Institute of Pittsburgh, Slippery Rock VFW/EMS, Brain Injury Association of PA, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Neighborhood Art House, Erie, and Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

This year’s winner, Karen Scuilli, has chosen as her beneficiary Face2Face, a charity that provides support to people with facial disfigurements.

“WPTLA’s Comeback Award Dinner is one of our premier events. It encapsulates why we became trial lawyers. To see how our clients persevere when victims of terrible, preventable events is both awe-inspiring and breathtaking,” said WPTLA President-Elect and Comeback Award Dinner Chairperson David M. Landay. “I am always humbled by their determination and lack of self-pity.”

WPTLA is a professional association of trial lawyers that exists to preserve the right to trial by jury for all citizens.
