Monongahela Area Historical Society will present “The Captain’s Last Descent,” a murder mystery diner’s delight, on Friday, Oct. 19, at Rippels on the Creek, 807 Dry Run Road. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Dinner follows at 7. Cost of $35 per person includes dinner and entertainment. There will be a cash bar. Washington County Department of Parks & Recreation will hold two Halloween Night Walks on the Panhandle Trail. The first walk will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, beginning at the McDonald Trail Station, 16 South McDonald Street. The second walk will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, beginning at the Burgettstown Trailhead (next to Biny’s Market), 1802 Main Street. Children ages 11 and under are encouraged to dress in costume to collect treats along the trail lit with luminaries, glowing pumpkins and campfires. There is no fee, but registration is required as space is limited. To register for either walk, call 724-228-6867. The walks will be held rain or shine.
The Myasthenia Gravis Association of Western PA’s (MGA) 10th Annual MGA Pooch Parade will be held on Sunday, Oct. 21, at South Park. This family-friendly event features a one-mile fun walk beginning at the Dog Park. Registered participants will receive morning refreshments, a goody bag, official t-shirt, and bandana for their dog. Registration begins at 9 a.m. followed by the Pooch Parade at 10. Walkers without dogs and virtual walkers can also participate. There will be a costume contest with prizes for best dog and best dog/owner combo costumes. There will also be free Halloween candy and face painting for the kids, and raffles of gift baskets and silent auctions. There will be vendors, including the “Ask-the-Vet” booth. Bring a donation for South Hills Interfaith Movement (SHIM) Food Pantry. Proceeds benefit the free patient support services at MGA. For a registration form, visit mgawpa.org. Preregistration requiredPenn State Extension will offer a Food Safety Training Course from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, and from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Oct. 31, with the certification examination following at 1 p.m., at the Greene County Penn State Extension Office in Waynesburg. The course fee of $185 per person covers the cost of the ServSafe® course book and instructional materials.
