Join park staff and local expert Frank Pecjak to hike a portion of the Warrior Trail in Greene County and learn about the trail’s historic significance. The hike, set for 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, will cover about 3.4 miles from the Moninger Shelter near Centennial Church on Aleppo Rd (N 39.800528, W 80.405833) to the intersection of Windy Gap and Bryan Ridge Roads (N 39.796249, W 80.453510). The group will meet at the Moninger Shelter and stage cars at the end of the route for shuttling hikers back to the start. Bring water and wear sturdy hiking shoes.
Springhill Township Clean Up Days will be held Sunday and Monday, Oct. 21 and 22. Excluded from the collection will be household garbage, refrigerators (unless red tagged) and tires. This is for residents only.
Peters Creek Historical Society will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at Wright’s United Methodist Church, 788 Venetia Road, Venetia. Society members will present an introduction to genealogy. The Greene County Photography Club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Waynesburg Bible Chapel located on Greene Street. Club member Bob Bedison will show his photographs of birds from Florida. Members are reminded to bring three photos for this month’s photo challenge, “Cemetery.” New members are welcome.
The Waynesburg Lions Club’s annual community Halloween Parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25. Local residents who wish to participate should assemble between 6 and 6:15 p.m. in the parking lot behind the Long Building off Morgan Street. Prizes will be awarded in age groups up to sixth grade, and all participants will receive a treat bag at the conclusion of the parade. The Waynesburg High School and Margaret B. Miller marching bands will lead the parade down High Street. In Motion Dance Studio will wrap up the event with a group dance fitness routine to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.”
The White Oak American Legion Post 701 will sponsor an oldies dance from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at 2813 Capital Street. There will be music from the ’50s and early ’60s by Candy and Mike. Admission is $5 per person. All proceeds benefit veterans programs. For information, call 724-984-6611.
