WCCF announces new Burgettstown scholarship
Washington County Community Foundation (WCCF) announced the creation of a new scholarship fund to support eligible graduating seniors from Burgettstown High School who are planning to attend an accredited post-secondary trade or technical school.
Beginning in the spring of 2019, the Three Oaks Scholarship Fund will award up to five annual scholarships of $1,000 each. A subsequent year scholarship may be awarded to a student, provided the student remains enrolled in the trade or technical school in good academic standing and is following a normal academic progression for the chosen course of study.
“Of the more than 30 scholarship funds of the WCCF, the majority are for students pursuing associate degrees or bachelor degrees. At the community fFoundation, we recognize that some students are better suited to careers in the trades, and we also know that there is an acute need for skilled workers in diverse industries in our region. We applaud the donors who created the Three Oaks Scholarship Fund for recognizing the importance of helping young people train for jobs that are best suited for their individual talents and are also critical for our local workforce,” said Betsie Trew, WCCF president and CEO.
The only criterion to select the scholarship recipients shall be the student’s aptitude for the chosen course of study. Financial need will not be considered, and applicants will not be required to submit the FAFSA. Applicants will not be required to provide test scores for the SAT, ACT, or any other test typically required for admission to a traditional four-year college or university, nor shall applicants be required to provide an essay or to respond to any essay questions. In the selection process, preference will be given to those students who have received the highest recommendations regarding aptitude from educators and administrators in the Burgettstown Area School District. Applications for the Three Oaks Scholarship Fund may be submitted from Jan. 1 to April 1 via the foundation’s website, www.wccf.net.
