Sheetz launches hunger-relief program
Convenience store chain Sheetz Inc. announced Thursday it is providing hunger relief in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland – the six states in which it operates.
The Altoona-based company is donating ready-to-eat food on a weekly basis to Feeding America, a network of food banks and its partner in the endeavor. Items include sandwiches, salads, wraps, fruit vegetables and yogurt. Sheetz also will make financial donations to Feeding America food banks at store openings.
Joe Sheetz, president and chief executive officer of the chain, said in a prepared statement: “Hunger knows no boundaries. It touches people from all walks of life in every community in the U.S., and in every community Sheetz serves. We are deeply committed to helping those facing hunger.”
“We are deeply committed to helping those facing hunger and are proud to have been able to donate over 2 million meals through our partnership with Feeding America already,” President and CEO Joe Sheetz said in a news release.
“I am also proud of the efforts of Sheetz employees, who have really dedicated themselves to helping fight hunger in our communities.”
