Washington Seventh-Day Adventist Church will offer a healthy cooking class at 6:30 p.m. today at SDA Community Hall, 901 N. Main St., Washington. Learn how to reduce your chances of heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. Participants will have the opportunity to sample what is being prepared. The class will last 60 to 90 minutes. Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village will host Frontier Heritage Weekend Saturday and Sunday, with special extended hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Get a first-hand look at the everyday lives of 18th century frontier tradesmen and discover the skills necessary to survive in the Western Pennsylvania wilderness. Visitors can also test their skills at a tomahawk-throwing station, an important tool and weapon used on the 18th-century frontier. Admission is $15 for adults, $14 for senior citizens and $7 for students and children ages 6-17. Children ages 5 and younger and History Center members get in free. St. Michael Parish, 97 Highland Ave., Avella, will hold a chicken parmesan dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday in the church hall. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 11 and younger. The Monongahela Area Revitalization Corporation (MARC) will hold its second 5K Run/Walk Sept. 29. The “On Your MARC Cox Market presents the Best Yet 5K Run/Walk, Lap 2” will begin and end at Chess Park and wind through the neighborhoods of Monongahela and New Eagle. Starting time for the runners is 9 a.m. then followed by the walkers at 9:03. The deadline to apply for the $20 registration fee rate is Sept. 26. The first 200 applicants will be guaranteed a shirt and race bag. A $25 late registration fee will be accepted at the race sight until 8:30 a.m. the morning of the race (shirt and race bag not guaranteed). Race applications can be found locally at Cox Market, 711 Route 481 (Park Avenue Extension), at the Monongahela Area Chamber of Commerce and Hill’s Restaurant in New Eagle. WYFCO and T-Robe Comedy presents The Improv Washington fall fundraising event to benefit Washington Youth Football & Cheerleading Organization. The event will be held from 6:30 p.m. to midnight Sept. 29 at South Strabane fire hall, 172 Oak Spring Road, Washington. Doors open at 6. Tickets are $40 and include dinner, the comedy show, a disc jockey and dancing. Two hundred presale tickets are available – no tickets will be sold at the door. The event is BYOB.
