Donora Library to hold open house
The Donora Public Library board of directors will host an open house, starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The evening will signal the beginning of a fundraising effort to expand the library and the services it provides.
Library directors and staff will be available to give tours of the library and discuss plans to build a two-story addition, approximately doubling the current 9,000-square-foot facility. The $1.4 million expansion also includes space to house the Donora Historical Society and the Donora Smog Museum.
Honored guest of the evening will be Donora native and author, Sidney Mishkin, whose recently released “Memories of Donora” will be available for sale.
The book takes a look back at a booming mill-town and how the Jewish community helped form the diverse culture of the borough.
The Donora Public Library was created in 1930 and has continuously served as a center of knowledge for patrons.
Now, as libraries evolve to provide more services, the library is preparing for more adult and children’s programming and technologies to help lead residents of the mid-Mon Valley into new opportunities.
