It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood for Pittsburgh-area fans of both Fred Rogers and Tom Hanks.

Sony Pictures has released the first image of the two-time Oscar-winner Hanks in costume as the titular creator and star of “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” in a currently untitled film that is in production from TriStar Pictures in the Pittsburgh area.

Hanks is boasting Rogers’ famous attire from his cardigan down to his shoes in this first publicity photo from the film. According to Sony’s news release, the film is based on Rogers’ real-life friendship with journalist Tom Junod, who “overcomes his skepticism” and learns “about empathy, kindness and decency from America’s most beloved neighbor.”

The film is set to be released in October 2019.

Rogers was recently profiled in the critically acclaimed documentary film “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?”
