Cal U celebrates Black History Month
California University of Pennsylvania plans a series of events in February to celebrate Black History Month. Admission to “Black History through the Decades” is free unless otherwise noted. Activities include the annual Soul Food Luncheon/Dinner on Wednesday, Feb. 6, in the Gold Rush Culinary Center inside the Natali Student Center. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; dinner is from 4 to 7 p.m. Cost is $8.25 for lunch and $10.60 for dinner.
Other events include: Barbershop offering haircuts and shaves for men of color, 2 p.m. Feb. 3 in Hamer Hall, Room 128; Documentary viewing and discussion of “The Mask You Live In,” an award-winning documentary that follows boys and young men as they struggle to stay true to themselves while negotiating America’s narrow definition of masculinity, 5 p.m. Feb. 5, in the Natali Student Center, Room 321; Panel discussion on intersections of culture and how it contributes to an individual’s growth and success, 11 a.m. Feb. 7, Eberly Hall, Room 110; Moments in Time: BHM Trivia Night, 7 p.m. Feb. 11, in the Performance Center; Dez Duron, a pop, jazz and soul musical artist who competed on the third season of The Voice, 11 a.m. Feb. 13, in the Food Court of the Natali Student Center; Multicultural Affairs Night at Cal U Basketball, Feb. 13 in the Convocation Center, with women playing at 5:30 p.m. and men at 7:30, tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for visiting students, with Cal U students with valid CalCards and children under age 12 admitted free; BSU Culture Café featuring Cal U students performing music, spoken word and dance, 7 to 10 p.m. Feb. 22, in the Performance Center; African Drum and Dance Ensemble, 11 a.m. Feb. 25, in the Food Court of the Natalie Student Center; Black Arts Festival, 7 p.m. Feb. 28, in Vulcan Hall, with refreshments, music and giveaways.
