Gas prices dip slightly in Washington, region

1 min read

Gasoline prices continued their roller coaster ride in Western Pennsylvania.

The average cost of a gallon of unleaded self-serve this week is $2.463, a 0.8-cent decrease from $2.471 a week ago, AAA East Central reported Monday afternoon. That average is 16.5 cents lower than it was a year ago – $2.628.

Prices over the past four weeks have risen, dropped, risen and dropped.

Pennsylvania’s average dipped two cents to $2.47, as prices fell one to three cents in every state in the Mid-Atlantic region. Gasoline stocks grew by about one million barrels across the region, which includes the Keystone State, and are at 69 million. That is expected to keep regional prices stable.

Washington’s average decreased by 2.1 cents this week, to $2.494 from $2.515. That ranks 13th among 22 Western Pennsylvania cities and towns listed by AAA.

Butler has the lowest average ($2.249), followed closely by New Castle ($2.313). For at least the third week in a row, Warren has the highest price ($2.599).

Averages increased in only eight states this week, as the nationwide figure remained at $2.26.
