Angel F. Miranda Award winner
The recipient of the 2018 Angel F. Miranda Award is Bethel Park High School student Jenna Kroboth. The award was established in 2012 in honor of Angel F. Miranda, son of Angel and Alma (De Leon) Miranda and a 2007 graduate of the Bethel Park School District, who attended Pathfinder School. As a student with special needs, Angel was able to overcome numerous barriers as he transitioned from high school to adult life. This award was established to annually honor Angel’s memory by recognizing and awarding a student with special needs, of any level of functioning, who resides in Bethel Park. The student must demonstrate the characteristics of Self-Determination, Tenacity, Accepting Challenges, Overcoming Obstacles, Service Work and “Going the Extra Mile.” Throughout Jenna’s high school career, she has repeatedly demonstrated a high level of both self-determination and tenacity. With her determined approach, Jenna portrayed a rare level of work ethic by accepting challenges and overcoming numerous obstacles. Along with selecting to take higher level classes and work at the Child Development Co-op, Jenna also chose to be involved in co-curricular activities, where she faced both physical and mental hurdles. Conquering these challenges resulted in self-rewarding benefits, where she ultimately became a self-determined advocate and a contributing member on her team. Jenna’s future plan is to attend a post-secondary school to become certified as a Child Development Specialist.
