Grants help boost substance abuse programs
Two programs designed to help local families address the impact of substance-abuse disorder were boosted by separate grants from the state.
Westmoreland Drug and Alcohol Commission recently received State Opioid Response Grants funding from the Department of Drug and Alcohol programs to benefit one program at the Monessen Family Center. Westmoreland Drug and Alcohol Commission is subcontracting with SPHS Family Center to operate the Strengthening Families program at the center. This will be the first year that the Strengthening Families program will operate through the Family Center, located at 412 Reed Ave. in Monessen.
SPHS Family Center was also recently awarded a grant through the state Department of Human Services to fund a new program, Incredible Years. The state Department of Human Services grant totaling $150,000 funds the program through 2024. Incredible Years is a parenting program, targeting opioid-use and families affected by substance abuse.
