It may have rained on their parade, but members of the Peters Township High School Class of 2020 seemed not to care at all.

As graduating seniors and their parents gathered early in the evening of June 4 in the Bible Chapel parking lot, the remnants of a heavy storm continued to drizzle on the proceedings. Nevertheless, participants got ready by decorating their vehicles and eventually lining them up to proceed in an orderly manner.

And by the time 7 p.m. rolled around and the procession rolled out, the sun was trying to peek out from behind the clouds.

Either way, everyone involved looked as if they were having fun as they headed toward the township’s Hiddenbrook and Hidden Valley Estates neighborhoods.

Seniors, of course, had been denied many of the activities of their final year of high school because of COVID-19, which prevented students from returning after March 13.

To help compensate, Peters Township parents organized the parade, during which the students had the opportunity to show their pride in their accomplishments, many of them calling attention to the institutions of higher learning they will be attending. Twin sisters Raegan and Taylor Smallwood are both heading about an hour and a half east to Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

And considering the frequency of precipitation in Indiana, it’s good the girls have had some experience with rainy-day parades.
