Mornings in Mingo
The next Mornings in Mingo program will be on Aug. 12 at 10 a.m. This topic will be butterflies with Monica Miller. Meet at Shelter 1. The program begins at 10 a.m. Miller will share photographs and living specimens of locally observed butterflies. A short walk will also be offered. August is also the annual Mornings in Mingo picnic. After the program, grilled hot dogs and light refreshments will be served. Participants are welcome to bring a side dish to share. Preregistration is preferred but not required. Pilates classes
Westminster Presbyterian Church in Upper St. Clair will offer Pilates classes on Wednesdays, July 15 through Aug. 26, from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. for $60. Coin club meeting
The monthly meeting of the South Hills Coin Club will be held Aug. 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bethel Park Municipal Building, 5100 W. Library Ave. All members and the general public are invited. This month’s program will be on special edition coins and currency. A 50/50 will be offered, and children’s prizes will be awarded. Applications are now being accepted for membership. Jam night
Mingo Creek County Park will host a jam night Aug. 13 at Shelter 10 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Musicians who wish to share their talents are welcome to join the jam. Don’t play an instrument? No worries, listeners are always welcome. Musical flavor leans toward bluegrass, country and folk. Seating is available at the picnic tables. Those attending are also welcome to bring a lawn chair or blanket. There is no fee for this program. Pre-registration is preferred but not required. Veterans Council meeting
The Monongahela Veterans Council will meet at VFW 1409 – Black Diamond, 793 E. Main St., Monongahela, on Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. to discuss upcoming events, including Warriors Rock and activities scheduled for this year. All interested parties are welcome to attend. There are a handful of tickets for the Warriors Rock concert on Aug. 16 and the meal following, both held at Ringgold Middle School. Seating is limited.
Car and motorcycle show
The First Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon, 501 Fayette Ave. in Rostraver Township, will hold its annual car, truck and motorcycle show on Aug. 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free admission to the general public. Faith and fitness classes
Westminster Presbyterian Church in Upper St. Clair will host free faith-and-fitness classes to move, lift spirits and strengthen faith. The next class is set for Aug. 15, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Easy-to-follow fitness movements are set to inspiring contemporary Christian music. No dance experience is needed. Dine and donate
A dine-and-donate day to support Mon Valley Paws will take place at the Trailside Restaurant, 108 W. Main St., West Newton, on Aug. 19. The Trailside Restaurant will share a portion of sales from 5 to 9 p.m. with MVP. MVP volunteers will be collecting pet food donations. Those donating pet food items will have an opportunity to win a $25 gift card from Pet Supplies Plus Belle Vernon. A basket auction, raffles and T-shirt sale will take place during this event. Meadow Lands Food Pantry
Meadow Lands Food Pantry, 300 W. Pike St., announces an updated schedule for the pantry: Aug. 22, Sept. 26, Oct. 24, Nov. 21 and Dec. 19. Hours are 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Executive director Rich Wingertsahn noted that the food pantry board of directors voted to continue their relationship with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. “The GPCFB has been a wonderful partner for us, and we see no reason to change this,” he said.
Reunion planned
The Fetherlin/Hart reunion will be held Aug. 23 at 2 p.m. at the Devore Farm Social Hall. Please bring a favorite side dish, vegetable or dessert and an item or basket for the auction. A bake sale is also planned, so please consider bringing homemade baked goods ready for sale.
Mon Valley Paws meeting
Mon Valley Paws will host a general meeting on Aug. 25 at 6 p.m. at the ISMA Italian Club, 112 Seventh St., Monessen. All chairpersons, coordinators and event chairpersons will report on the progress of their committees and projects for the upcoming year. Dog swim
A doggie paddle event will be held Aug. 26 and 27 at the outdoor pool at the Mon Valley YMCA, 101 Taylor Run Road, Monongahela, from 5 to 6 p.m. Small dogs under 30 pounds will swim on the 26th, and the 27th is for large dogs over 30 pounds. MVP will have an informational table at this event. MVP will collect pet food items. Those donating a pet food item will be entered in a drawing to win a Pet Supplies Plus Belle Vernon $25 gift card. Association of University People
The Association of University People welcomes singles 55 and over who are four-year college graduates to join them for various activities and to meet new friends. Events include happy hour, brunches, lunches, dinners, meet-ups at live music venues and local wineries, picnics, a book group and day trips. Those interested can attend three activities as guests before deciding to join. A tattoo flash sale will take place on Aug. 29 from noon to 8 p.m. at Lionheart Tattoo, 121 Main St., New Eagle. Lionheart Tattoo will be sharing a percentage of sales with Mon Valley Paws. Pantry donations
Liberty Chapel Global Methodist Church, 1330 Banetown Road, Washington, collects non-perishable food products for the Community Circle Food Pantry on the first Saturday of each month between 9 a.m. and noon. Donations will be unloaded upon arrival.
Craft show
A Joy of Christmas craft show will be held at Louise de Marillac School and LeGras Parish Center, 320 McMurray Road, Upper St. Clair, on Nov. 21 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. There will be 113 artists and crafters, a bake sale, a crafts raffle and a 50/50 raffle. Lunch and snacks will be available for purchase. Admission is $2, which includes a complimentary ticket for the crafts raffle. By the order of the Upper St. Clair fire marshal, strollers are not permitted inside the show.
