Canonsburg native promoted to rank of colonel

A Canonsburg native serving in the U.S. Army National Guard was promoted from the rank of lieutenant colonel to colonel in a ceremony last month.

Christopher B. Bowers assumed command of the Eastern Army National Guard Aviation Training Site at Fort Indiantown Gap in November.

Bowers enlisted in the Army Reserve in 1996 and has served in various roles since. He holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Shippensburg University, a master of public administration from Regent University and a master of strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College.

Bowers, who has served in Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan, has received numerous awards and decorations, including the Bronze Star Medal and Meritorius Service medals. He also has earned the Master Aviator Badge with more than 2,500 hours and is an Order of Saint Michael recipient.

He lives in Lititz with his wife, Danielle, and two children.
