Washington County Commissioner Larry Maggi was recently reappointed by the National Executive Committee of the American Legion to serve on the Youth Cadet Law Enforcement and the Law and Order & Homeland Security committees.

The Youth Cadet Law Enforcement Committee oversees, organizes and conducts youth law enforcement programs throughout the nation, while the Law and Order & Homeland Security Committee discusses law and order and homeland security issues, writes policies and lobbies national legislators. This year’s theme is “Be Part of the Solution.”

“We must emphasize the importance of reaching out to all veterans, regardless of current or past membership in the American Legion,” Maggi said, adding that the appointees are to be pro-active and utilize buddy checks to make sure every veteran knows their value to the Legion. “The emphasis is to reach veterans who may feel isolated and, in some tragic cases, suicidal.”

Maggi, who is a lifelong resident of Claysville and served in the U.S. Marine Corps, is a member of the Claysville American Legion, the Mon Valley Leathernecks, the Marine Corps League, Sons of the American Legion and the American Legion Riders. He is the Law and Order Committee Chairman of the 25th District American Legion, chairman of the state Law and Order Committee of the Department of the American Legion, camp director of the Pennsylvania American Legion/State Police Youth Week and a member of the Blue Knights.

“Veterans issues are very important to me; therefore, it is an honor to be appointed to these national committees,” he said. “I will do whatever I can to fight for our veterans to make sure their voices are heard at the local, state, and national level.”
