Yoga has increased in popularity in recent years. Throughout the area, new studios are emerging, each specializing in a distinct form of the practice.

Evolve Yoga Studio is one of the latest additions to the community, offering a diverse range of yoga classes. In an effort to share this practice, Evolve is organizing and sponsoring the Canonsburg Yoga and Wellness festival at Canonsburg Town Park.

The event will be held below the pickleball courts and behind the Yoney Pavilion on Aug. 8 from 3 to 8 p.m. The first of its kind in the community, it’s the brainchild of Jamie Stiles, the owner of Evolve Wellness Studio on Pike Street.

“There hasn’t been anything like this around here in our small town,” says Stiles. “It’s brand new.”

The event is nonprofit and sponsored by local businesses in the wellness industry. Aside

from Stiles, Jen Lucas from Scared Tones in Canonsburg and Kate and Trenton Sweet from

Energy Fitness in Washington have been hard at work to curate a fun, educational and free

healing experience. Not only will there be yoga and fitness classes throughout the entire day,

but there will also be saunas and cold plunges, and other vendors offering mini tattoos, massage therapy, tarot and astrology readings. These vendors will be asking for a small charge for their services, but all yoga and events offered throughout the day will be free.

All ages are welcome and encouraged to attend. All that’s needed is a mat to practice on. At 4 p.m., there will be a kids’ yoga class held in the field, offering a fun and energetic practice for the young ones, with free frozen yogurt at the end.

Stiles is also putting together promotional gift bags for the first 100 people to show up. Free water will be available during the events, but multiple food vendors will be present as well, including Crazy Horse Coffee, Pressed and Blended, and Popcorn Willy’s. Altogether, there will be 25 vendors to explore the area’s health and wellness businesses.

The event is being held to coincide with a full moon, which represents a complete cycle and serves as a time for reflection. Aside from the full moon, there is an astrological event happening on Aug. 8: the lion’s gate portal, when the sun (while in Leo) aligns with the star Sirius and Earth. It is said to usher in energy and support personal growth.

By situating this yoga festival during these two events, Stiles hopes to provide people with a grounding experience, something to help them focus on their inner selves rather than outside influences.

“Everything in life is changing; nothing stays the same,” says Stiles, “but you can’t fix what’s out there, only what’s inside.” Her goal with her business – and by extension the Canonsburg Yoga and Wellness festival – is to get adults and kids to focus on their health, both physical and mental.
