Carmichaels Women’s Civic Club names Girl of the Month recipients
The Carmichaels Women’s Civic Club recently named the October, November and December Girl of the Month awardees. These students are seniors at Carmichaels Area High School.
October’s Girl of the Month is Alexandria (Allie) Miller, the daughter of Craig Miller and Tiffany Schwalm. Miller is the president of the National Honor Society, Senior Class vice president, History Committee president, Spanish Club president, newspaper editor, Envirothon team captain, as well as a member of the Leo Club, SADD, student council, Academic League, debate team and varsity softball team.
Outside of school, Miller fundraises for Type 1 Diabetes as a 2024 Morgantown Breakthrough Diabetes Youth Ambassador, works at the local police department, works at Dairy Queen, is a member of Saint Matthias Parish, volunteers at the local food bank, announces the Carmichaels basketball games and runs local blood drives. Miller is an after-school tutor for middle/high school students, participates in Trunk or Treat, and plants trees in the park and at school.
Miller plans to attend a six-year program to major in public policy and political science with a minor in conflict resolution. Allie intends to become an environmental attorney.
November’s Girl of the Month is Ava Smith, the daughter of Jeremy and Deana Smith.
Smith is a highest honors student enrolled in honors and college-accredited courses. She is also a member of the Penn State Fayette 4.0 Club and the National Honor Society. She is a student council representative, a member of the senior standing committee, vice president of the Spanish Club, president of the Book Club and has been dance captain of the drama club for the last two years. She has been a varsity cheerleader for the past four years and is now captain of the squad. She is also captain of the Carmichaels Cross Country Team. Over the last two years, Ava has participated in her school’s drama club productions, including Newsies Jr. and Frozen Jr. In which she played the role of Sven.
For the past thirteen years, Smith has studied all forms of dance at the Center for the Performing Arts in Carmichaels, where she is an assistant teacher. Smith actively participates in community service and has volunteered at the local food banks, supported Junior Achievement, helped with the winter sports program at the Carmichaels Elementary Center and has participated in various events held by her clubs. Over the past five years, Smith has volunteered at the Mon Valley Chippewa Golf Outing to help raise money for the Mon Valley Mining Electrical Mechanical Maintenance Association. Smith won the title of 2024 Pennsylvania Bituminous Coal Queen. Thus far, during her reign, she has completed eighteen hours of community service by attending festivals, parades, and other community events.
After graduation, Smith plans to attend a four-year university to obtain her bachelor of science in nursing and complete her education by obtaining her master of science in nursing. Smith aspires to pursue a career as a specialized nurse practitioner. She also expects her collegiate studies to include a minor in dance, hoping to continue dancing at that level.
December’s Girl of the Month is Ali Jacobs, the daughter of Jeff Jacobs and Melanie Jacobs. Jacobs is a member of the student council, senior standing committee, SADD and the Leo Club. She is also a member of the varsity softball team and the varsity basketball team. Jacobs serves as the secretary of the National Honor Society, organizing community service projects such as blood drives. Jacobs is an EMT student hoping to gain valuable experience in the medical field that will assist her in becoming a physical therapist.
Outside of school, Jacobs is a member of a travel softball team and works as a day camp counselor over the summer.
After high school, Jacobs plans to attend a four-year college, majoring in pre-physical therapy/exercise science, then obtain a doctor of physical therapy degree. While in college, Jacobs also aspires to join a collegiate-level softball team
