Garden club’s lavender Christmas tree on display
“Christmas in Lavender” is the theme of theTown & Country Garden Club’s Christmas tree that will be among trees entered in the 10th annual Christmas Tree Extravaganza at the Carmichaels First United Methodist Fellowship Hall.
Local merchants, organizations, churches and individuals participate by donating a live or artificial tree decorated in the theme of their choice. In front of each tree is a decorated can with a sign on the front stating the theme of the tree and who donated it.
The cans are receptacles for the tickets people get as they donate to Cumberland Township Food Pantry.
People donate to this fundraiser in order to help raise much needed funds to feed Greene County families in need and in hopes of winning a tree to take home.
The Extravaganza is sponsored by ACTS (Arts, Crafts, Talents, Services), a ministerial association of Greene County. The public is invited to view the 22 festive trees from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today through Friday.
There is no admission, and at 6 p.m. Friday, one ticket will be drawn out of each can and that ticket holder wins the decorated tree. After the drawing, the tickets in each can are counted to see which trees were the five most popular.
A picture of these trees is printed on posters and hung around town to announce who won the honors.
The Town and Country Garden Club’s tree is six feet and decorated with purple lights, ornaments in various shades of lavender and purple and topped with a large purple bow. Lavender-scented soaps made by club member Rachel Miller were placed among the ornaments. Many small decorative Christmas items were placed on the lavender tree skirt.
