Canonsburg Borough Building set to reopen
CANONSBURG – The Canonsburg Borough Building will reopen for business at 8 a.m. today after it was closed Tuesday when a few employees reported what they described as a “funny taste” in their mouths.
Mayor David L. Rhome said the air quality in the building was checked by Global Environmental Management of Carnegie.
“They ran different tests, including air monitoring, and found no issues with the air in the building,” Rhome said Tuesday afternoon.
The first reports of a problem came about 8:30 a.m. Renovation work is being done in the building.
“They were sealing off the hallway area near the borough offices and the police squad room,” Rhome said of the contractors doing some work at the building. “I don’t know if some dust was stirred up or what, but we decided to err on the side of caution and close.”
Staff in the borough offices was sent home just after 10 a.m.
In addition to the borough and police department offices, the building also houses a district office for state Sen. Tim Solobay. The police were able to return to their office about 3 p.m.
Neither the Canonsburg Volunteer Fire Department nor the office of District Judge David Mark was affected by the closure.
