Cal U. police chief headed to Green Tree Borough

1 min read

The California University of Pennsylvania police chief will be leaving his post in January to take the reins of a police department for a borough just outside of Pittsburgh.

Robert F. Downey Jr., who was hired as director and chief of university police in August 2010, will begin serving as police chief for Green Tree Borough, Allegheny County, effective Jan. 14.

“We appreciate Police Chief Bob Downey’s service to the university, particularly his efforts to make the California University Police Department more professional and effective in serving our campus community,” said Cal U. spokeswoman Christine Kindl. “The university expects to appoint an interim police chief who will handle day-to-day operations as we begin a search for Chief Downey’s replacement.”

Downey, who has more than three decades of law enforcement experience, previously served as a lieutenant/commander with the Allegheny County Police as well as the former director and chief of university police at Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania since 2008.
