Ex-LA official gets prison for child porn
LOS ANGELES (AP) – A former Los Angeles official who once blamed a spinal tumor for his interest in child pornography has been sentenced to seven years in federal prison.
Sixty-four-year-old Albert Abrams told a judge Monday he was sorry for his crimes and apologized to those he may have harmed.
He admitted he collected child pornography and distributed sexually explicit images.
In addition to prison, the court ordered that Abrams remain on supervised probation for the rest of his life.
Abrams, who ultimately dropped the tumor defense and blamed a back problem, is a former president of the Los Angeles neighborhood commission. The panel oversees dozens of neighborhood councils.
