State gives county jail 100 percent score
The Washington County jail has again achieved 100 percent compliance in an inspection by officials from the state Department of Corrections, attaining the honor for the seventh time dating to 2002.
Inspector Douglas Croley from the department’s office of county inspection and services visited the facility Aug. 7.
Shirley Smeal, executive deputy secretary, said in a letter to the county commissioners, “Receiving the certificate of compliance is a distinction that is earned, not given, and staff has met or exceeded our expectations.”
County Commission Chairman Larry Maggi, who is also chairman of the county prison board, said the detailed report is available at the Office of the Chief Clerk, 702 Courthouse Square, Washington.
