Teen faces kidnapping charge
A Charleroi teenager was arrested Monday after he allegedly planned to take a 13-year-old girl with him to Georgia.
George Montgomery, 18, of 410 10th St., Charleroi, is charged by Charleroi Regional police with kidnapping, concealing whereabouts of a child, interfering with the custody of children and false reports to police.
The girl’s mother, Kelly Walker, notified police Sunday night her daughter was missing. Montgomery later came to the station and told police he did not know the girl’s whereabouts.
The girl’s grandfather, Charles Wamsley, told police Monday afternoon Montgomery was hiding the girl and planning to take her to Georgia. He also told police he did not know the girl’s location.
Police went to 407 Fallowfield Ave., where they had found Montgomery with the girl in the past, but did not find the pair.
The grandfather again called police, notifying them that Montgomery had moved up the time when he planned to pick up the girl because police had been where he had been staying. Montgomery and the girl were found with bags packed in Donora.
Montgomery was arraigned before District Judge Mark Wilson and placed in the Washington County jail on $50,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 27 before District Judge Larry Hopkins.
