Man arrested in pharmacy robbery
A Washington man accused of robbing a pharmacy last month was arraigned Thursday on robbery, theft and drug charges.
Kenneth A. Schroeder, 30, of 420 E. Maiden St., is accused of robbing Walgreens, 99 Jefferson Ave., of two bottles of narcotic medication Nov. 7.
Schroeder reportedly walked into the store and handed the clerk a note indicating he wanted Oxycodone and Xanax. The note also indicated no one needed to know and no one would get hurt. After the clerk handed Schroeder two bottles containing the drugs, he fled.
About 90 minutes later, police were called for a man who possibly had overdosed on heroin. They responded to 420 E. Maiden St. and could see an unresponsive man, later identified as Schroeder, on the floor. Police were able to knock on the door and wake him up. Inside the home, police found the two bottles of medication on a desk. They also found the clothes matching the description of those worn by the robber. Schroeder told them he threw the cap he had worn into a sewer.
Schroeder had been in the Washington County jail on a probation violation since Nov. 8. He was arraigned via video from the jail. District Judge Robert Redlinger set bond on the robbery-related charges at $25,000.
