It took fire crews about 45 minutes Thursday morning to contain a blaze that caused approximately $50,000 in damage to a South Strabane Township home.

Township fire Chief Scott Reese said the fire that began in the bedroom of a single-story, aluminum-sided house at 117 Statement St. was reported at 9:05 a.m.

Crews from the township, Washington and Bentleyville arrived shortly afterward, finding smoke streaming from the house’s roof.

The owner, Aaron Yoder, a truck driver, was not in the house at the time the blaze broke out, Reese said.

Reese said he and a state police fire marshal examined the house and determined the fire was accidental and electrical in nature. He said the blaze was contained to the bedroom and bathroom, but there was smoke and water damage throughout the structure. No one was injured.
