Washington man jailed on firearm, drug charges
A Washington man was jailed early Friday morning on firearm and drug charges following a traffic stop Thursday in the city.
Ryan L. Wallace, 25, of East Hallam Avenue, was charged with receiving stolen property, carrying an unlicensed firearm, possession of a controlled substance and disorderly conduct, court records show.
According to city police, officers smelled marijuana after stopping a vehicle that Wallace was riding in along the 100 block of Highland Avenue for expired registration at 9:30 p.m. Thursday.
While he was being placed under arrest on a probation warrant, police said, Wallace tried to throw away a marijuana cigar and continued to attempt to reach into his pants despite orders to remain still.
Officers searched Wallace and found a handgun, a Xanax pill and a small amount of marijuana in his pockets, police said. Wallace did not have a permit to carry the weapon, and state police confirmed the firearm was stolen. A search of the vehicle netted four Oxycodone pills and one Hydrocodone pill.
Wallace was arraigned before District Judge David Mark and remanded to the Washington County jail on $25,000 bond.
